Little Miracle

Hey Everyone, This is Tyson writing and that little gal you're looking at is Emily Rose Higham. Isn't she darling?

I am just the most lucky guy in the world at this moment, and let me tell you why...
In Monday, Dec. 31st, Kim went to the Doctor for a routine visit to check on her and baby as she was three weeks from her due date of Jan. 19th. It had been just a great pregnancy. At the last appointment a few weeks prior, Doc said that Everything was looking so good that she didn't need to come back in for a few weeks, although it is not uncommon for women at this stage of a pregnancy to be seen every week. Anyways, back to Monday the 31st. When the doc was listening for baby's heartbeat, he couldn't seem to find it because the heart beat he was hearing was beating at about 70 beats a min. and a baby's heartbeat should bet at between 120 and 150 beats a minute, so the doctor thought that it was Kimberly's heatbeat that he was hearing.
Upon further inspection he realized that it fact it was baby's heartbeat.
So Doctor Nelson sent Kimberly straight to the hospital.

When Kim got out to the car, she gave me a call and told me what I just told you. She was obviously very upset and sounded very scared. I tried to calm her the best I could, I told her that I loved her very much and that everything would probably be OK and to just be sure and drive safely and not crash on the way to the hospital and to give me a call when she arrived.

I then called her mom and told her that I needed a ride to the hospital as Kim had the car.

When Kim's mom and Jeffrey (luckily Grandma has a spare carseat) and I got to the hospital the first person that we saw was a nurse with the name Kimberly and when I saw her badge I commented that it was my wife's name. She asked what my last name was, so I told her. The nurse then told me that Kim was in recovery.

"Recovery????" I asked

"Yes, she delivered via c-section"

Wow, what a surprise.

I'm going to sum up the rest... When Kim got to the hospital the baby's heartbeat was still 70 bpm so they did what's called a crash and got that baby out as quickly as possible.

Kim has been a trooper through this whole thing. First she was so worried about losing the baby and had to drive to the hospital scared and alone, and then had to get sliced practically in half to get the baby out. She delivered at about 11:00 AM and didn't get to hold Emily til about 6:00 PM becasue Emily had to stay in the nursery til they had performed several tests to see what was up with her heart.

Kim has been so brave and has had such a good attitude. She is my hero!!!

Also When a baby's heartrate is as low as Emily's was for as long as it was, they shouldn't survive. For whatever reason, she not only survived, but she is perfectly healthy. She had an irregular heatbeat for the first 24 hours but it went away and the doctors say that everything is great.

We are very blessed!

Lots to blog about...

Yup, today I'll be making up for lost time! It's been a while since I posted last, so you get a lot today! First of all, I'm really worried about Jeffrey...
See that little blue thing? (Sorry, I know its tiny, thats as far as my camera would zoom!)
Well, that just happens to be the baby Jesus from one of my nativities. And yup, thats the patio of the apartment beneath us. You guessed it, Jeffrey was trying to get rid of him! Ah! What kind of sadistic son do we have?
We were going to go rescue him the next morning, but by that time the cleaning crew had already been through. (Its one of the model apts.) So, baby Jesus is lost forever :(
(luckily its just a little piece of wood!)

Next, I Love Christmas Music! And Christmas in general- I love the winter weather we get here, I love the decorating, and making sugar cookies (which I havent done yet, but I thoroughly intend to!), everything. Its the most wonderful time of the year! I cant wait till we get a tree.
Congrats again Sun Devils on the win Saturday night. Bummer about not getting into the Fiesta bowl- The Holiday bowl is still good though, right?
I love the atmosphere of college football games. So much energy!

Can you feel the love? :)

Finally, I just wanted to put up a couple cute pictures of my cute family!

My tummy at 7 months

The cutie pie!
My two stud muffins!

I am grateful for...

I know thanksgiving is over, but I feel very thankful right now!! Thank goodness for running water!!
The water main at our apartments broke yesterday, so we were without water for a good portion of the day. I didn't realize how much water we use for everything! Even simple things like cleaning up Jeffrey after meals was such a pain. We had to use bottled water and baby wipes for everything. (Its a good thing we stock up so much on bottled water!) Tyson even took a shower with bottled water- it took 9 bottles!
I cant imagine how anyone lives without running water. No showers, no washing hands, no toilet, nothin! I think the hardest part would actually be not having indoor plumbing- man am I grateful for that! Especially with my over-active pregnant bladder! :)
I love technology!

Halloween

We really didnt get any good halloween pictures- I'm so bummed about that. But here are the few that we got and you can kind of get the idea! Jeffrey was dressed up as an angel- which was a fitting costume because usually he's not so angelic!

Just kidding- he's awesome most of the time- although Brock's favorite nickname for the JeffMan is "little terrorist".

Terrible Two's- a little early

Tyson has told me that his mom used to say to him "Do you stay up at night thinking of ways to make my life miserable?!"

Well, yesterday was the first time I've felt like saying that to Jeffrey! He's always been a little terror but then he really showed it.

First of all, when it was time to change his poopy diaper he would not hold still! There was no way to make him stop rolling over and getting up-so after 5 minutes of trying to get him to lay down, I decided I would just throw him in the tub. The bath was ok- he enjoyed being in the water but would still not let me wash him very easily. Then again, at putting-a-clean-diaper-on time, all he wanted to do was run around and climb on the couch naked.

As I'm writing this, it doesn't seem like as big a deal, but I wanted to pull my hair out yesterday!! Oh man! That kid doesn't like to hold still for 2 seconds. I really hope his sister is a little more calm!

Thankfully, though, he eventually took a 2 1/2 hour nap and I was able to get the house all clean for Tyson! I felt so good after that!

By the way, this is what Jeffrey would look like if he decided to grow his hair out... what a pretty girl!

Go Devils!

Last Saturday we went to the ASU vs Cal Football game- so fun! Its really exciting to have a winning team to cheer for. We'll see if they can keep up their undefeated-ness this Saturday when they play Oregon- should be a tough game. The only lame part was after the game the whole student section stormed the field, which in and of itself is really fun! But then people started climbing on the goal post and were trying to knock it over. How dumb can you get! "Yeah, we've got school spirit! Lets show it by destroying stuff!" That really left a sour taste in my mouth. But we had an awesome time cheering and getting cool ASU t-shirts nontheless!

We decided to become official Sun-Devils- the plan was to go to UofA in the spring, but after a quick trip down there we figured out that we like grass! There isnt any in Tucson! Lol. So Tyson will go to ASU instead. It's so nice to have a plan and be moving forward!

And, as a side note, Jeffrey is adorable! I mean, just look at those lips!!
